Range Environmental provided environmental monitoring support to Nexus for the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing Project. Our team assisted the Nexus construction team by providing environmental support services and ensuring the accurate implementation of the environmental specifications required by the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR). This included complaint response monitoring and the following routine tasks:
  • Installation of erosion and sediment controls and where required, develop practical alternative solutions for dynamic construction footprints.
  • Surface water field monitoring and quarterly laboratory testing across all waterways along the alignment, ensuring any significant changes in surface water quality as a result of project-related activities were identified and communicated to construction superintendents.
  • Groundwater monitoring to ensure compliance with allocated Take Water Permits and that groundwater quality was sufficient for dust suppression;
  • Air and noise monitoring and confirmation of compliance with project approvals.
  • Vibration monitoring conducted at sensitive receptors during blasting for both continuous and event-based blasts, ensuring the Peak Particle Velocity (PPV) and air blast were within regulatory limits and to inform dilapidation surveys.
The project also included assisting in the implementation of the project’s Environmental Management System (EMS) and ensuring the EMS was fully functioning. This included undertaking monthly auditing of EMS documentation (in accordance with the auditing schedule) and completing required documentation for all aspects of monitoring and management.
